Cosby Volunteer Fire Department Inc.
We are responsible for almost 100 square miles of homes, businesses and woodlands within our community. As you can imagine, there are considerable costs associated with the care, maintenance, insurance and utilities for these vehicles and facilities Our annual expenses average between $70,000 - $80,000.
We receive about 50% of our operating revenue from the county and the rest is up to us to raise through dinners; roadblocks; 4th of July fireworks celebration, etc.; and most of all, through membership dues in the CVFD Association. COVID-19 has impacted all of us and it has significantly reduced our ability to raise funds through our regular efforts.
The men and women of our department give many hours of their time, using their personal vehicles and fuel to answer your calls for help, anytime of the day or night.
In 2021, we responded to 240 calls for service including 18 structure fires; 31 vehicle fires; 36 brush fires; and 175 vehicle wrecks of which 74 had drivers or passengers with injuries. We also provided assistance to ambulance calls on more than 100 times las year.
PLEASE consider becoming a Member of the CVFD Association – yearly membership dues are only $25.00 per individual and $50 per business. We would not be able to continue our service to this community without our Association memberships and your prayers.
Whether you are a member or not, we will always respond to your calls for service.
We are currently in the process of revising the CVFD Association Bylaws. Please navigate to the Association tab on this page if you are interested in seeing the current and the proposed revisions. The second reading and voting on the bylaw revisions will be April 4th at 7:00 p.m. at the main fire station.
